Earthscape Construction

Drystone retaining wall

Drystone retaining wall

This project was completed at a large annex extension built onto an old farmhouse, where the brief called for a full hardscaping transformation to complement the new addition. The aim was to create a cohesive outdoor space that respected the character of the original farmhouse while enhancing functionality around the new extension. Key features included a dry stone retaining wall, a large Indian sandstone patio, and carefully designed level changes to connect the old and new areas seamlessly.

The works involved constructing a dry stone retaining wall to support changes in ground levels, alongside the installation of a large Indian sandstone patio chosen for its natural character and durability. Two sets of steps were built to lead up to the raised lawn, which was fully regraded and levelled to improve usability and drainage. Throughout the project, careful attention was paid to tying the new hardscaping into the existing landscape, ensuring a smooth transition between the original farmhouse features and the newly developed areas.

The project was delivered in a well-coordinated manner from planning through to completion, resulting in a unified and practical outdoor layout. The client was extremely pleased with how the new hardscaping enhances the annex while preserving the traditional feel of the farmhouse. The finished space now offers improved access, structure, and usability, providing a long-lasting and visually cohesive landscape that blends old and new effortlessly.
